Instruction/Reference Librarian
Tenure-Track
Recognized by ACRL for its "Best Practices in Information
Literacy," the Pollak Library has a comprehensive library instruction
program that emphasizes student centered learning and utilizes state-of-the-art
information technology inside and out of classroom settings.
Position
Participate in the Library's extensive instruction program, including
planning, outreach, teaching, and assessing library sessions for
CSUF classes and workshops in basic and specialized library research
techniques and methods. Provide reference assistance to CSUF students,
faculty, staff, and community in the Library's Information and Learning
Commons and online using QuestionPoint, instant messaging or other
communication technologies. Serve as library liaison and subject
consultant to academic departments. Create and maintain instructional
materials and content for library website. Work on specified projects
as needed in other units of the library. Serve on department, library,
and university committees.
Librarians at CSUF have faculty status and are expected to meet
promotion and tenure requirements, including scholarly and professional
activities.
Requirements
Requirements include:
- Master's degree in library and/or information science from an
ALA- accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time
of appointment.
- Experience and/or potential in developing effective training/teaching
sessions including the use of online modalities.
- Current reference experience using primarily electronic resources,
but also print collections.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to work in a team environment, and on
projects within other units of the library.
- Ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment
with co-workers, library users, and the wider campus community.
- Availability to work some weeknights and weekends.
- Evidence of interest in professional and scholarly activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong user-service
orientation and experience with, or an interest in the fields of
psychology, human services, counseling, gerontology, and/or education.
Experience or interest in emerging library technologies, such as
instant messaging, podcasting, Web 2.0, is considered a plus.
Rank & Salary
The position(s) will be at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian,
tenure-track. Salary range will be from $55,944 to $61,538, commensurate
with rank, experience and qualifications. Excellent comprehensive

is a vital component of the Library's extensive instruction program
and serves as a gateway to resources. The Library contains 1.2 million
books, government documents, and audiovisual materials; over 20,000
periodicals available electronically or in print; and over 200 electronic
databases. The Library uses the Innovative Interfaces integrated
library system, SFX, and Metalib. The staff includes 26 FTE librarians
and 37 FTE paraprofessionals.
