Mathematics Education
Tenure Track
The Department of Mathematics has an opening for at least one tenure-track
position in Mathematics Education, preferably at the rank of Assistant
Professor with consideration given for an appointment at the Associate
Professor level in exceptional cases.
Position
Candidates for this position should be mathematics educators or
mathematicians with strong interest and experience in Mathematics
Education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate
courses in mathematics, including teacher-oriented courses in the
general areas of algebra, number theory, and/or geometry; being
active in research related to Mathematics Education and/or Mathematics;
and advising students in the teaching options of the undergraduate
and graduate degree programs. This position offers a number of exciting
opportunities to collaborate with K-12 teachers, community college
instructors, and mathematicians on a variety of teaching/research
projects. Currently nine members of the department comprise the
mathematics education group. They are actively involved in several
local, state and national professional organizations, and serve

Qualifications
1) Doctorate in a field directly related to Mathematics Education,
plus a master's degree (or substantial graduate coursework and bachelor's
degree) in Mathematics; or
2) Doctorate in Mathematics with demonstrated experience in Mathematics
Education.
All degrees must be completed by the starting date. Preference
will be given to candidates with:
- Evidence of high quality teaching;
- Experience in teaching at the secondary level;
- Potential for a productive research program;
- Potential to contribute to the department's mathematics education
program at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and
- Commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student population.
Department
The Mathematics Department has 28 tenured or tenure-track faculty
members and offers undergraduate degree programs with options in
Teaching Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Applied
Mathematics, as well as a Master's degree program with options in
Teaching Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The Department has
a strong community of faculty members who are active in all aspects
of teaching and research in Mathematics Education.

This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor although appointment
at Associate Professor will be considered for candidates with exceptional
