The College of Education, California State University, Fullerton invites applications for Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Educational Leadership. The department consists of a dynamic and diverse group of faculty scholars who thrive on collaboration and innovative ideas. The faculty work together to prepare scholars and educational leaders for the Master of Science degree and the Preliminary and Professional Administrative Credential, Master of Science degree with a concentration in Higher Education, and for an Ed. D. specialization in P-12 Leadership and Community College Leadership. In excess of 200 students are usually enrolled in these programs from a variety of school districts in Southern California. All educational programs of the College are CTC and NCATE accredited.
Position
The ideal candidate is a scholar with demonstrated successful leadership ability in a post-secondary setting who displays high energy, research excellence, and a commitment to diversity, technology, collaboration, and program improvement. In performing his/her duties, the Chair is expected to seek the advice, counsel, and recommendation of his/her faculty colleagues, and conduct department affairs in a democratic and collaborative manner.
Responsibilities of the Chair include implementing departmental and College policies; ensuring quality and currency of department curriculum and delivery methods; overseeing the day to day work of the department, and working with the Dean’s Council of Chairs to support all aspects of the College of Education. The department Chair is a faculty position with responsibility for teaching master’s courses, providing academic advisement and support through the graduate process, participation in department/University service, and engagement in scholarly endeavors. The Chair may be asked to teach doctoral courses, also. Chairs are typically appointed for a three year term, with opportunities for re-appointment.
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- An earned doctorate in education or related field from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community and be committed to the preparation of graduates to meet the needs of the diverse populations of Southern California
- Experience in P-12 schools
- Experience providing leadership, mentoring, and appropriate supervision to a team of departmental faculty in post secondary education setting
- Demonstrated leadership in the preparation of documents for institutional, state, and national accreditation processes
- Demonstrated leadership in the ongoing assessment of student learning and program quality
- Demonstrated ability to teach master’s level courses offered by the department
- Demonstrated ability to advise and support masters students through the graduate process
- Record of sustained research and other scholarly accomplishments
- Expertise in several of the focus areas taught in the department
- Teaching experience using technology
Desired experience
- Chair or Head of a leadership department or similar department within a post-secondary institution
- Online teaching and course development
- Demonstrated ability to teach doctoral level courses offered by the department
- Demonstrated ability to advise and support doctoral students through the graduate process
Rank & Salary
Open rank (tenure track) in the Department of Educational Leadership. The salary is competitive and commensurate to rank, experience, and qualifications. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature.
