The Department of Philosophy at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor, to begin in the fall semester, 2008. We are a collegial group, student-centered, with varied scholarly interests in traditional and interdisciplinary dimensions of philosophy. Position
The new faculty member will teach a wide range of undergraduate philosophy courses for majors and non-majors, and integrate promise as a scholar with excellence in undergraduate teaching. He or she should be interested in promoting teaching through technological innovations and possess skills in collaboration, mentoring, and student-centered learning. Positive decisions on tenure and promotion require excellent teaching as well as research, peer-reviewed publications, and participation in the university and the profession.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in philosophy is required.
  • Open area of specialization, but candidate must show demonstrable experience and proficiency in teaching business ethics. Appropriate evidence of commitment to business ethics includes research and/or extended teaching experience.
  • Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to diversity (e.g. race, class, and gender issues) in the design of business ethics courses and in teaching pedagogy (e.g. student demographics - multi-age/cultural diversity, academic preparation, etc.).
  • The successful candidate will have a strong philosophical background, a broad vision of philosophy, and will complement departmental teaching and research.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students and faculty.
  • Familiarity with or experience in applying technological innovations in class activities/to promote learning.

Rank and Salary
The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, with salary highly competitive and commensurate with rank, qualifications and experience.
