Persian/Persian Studies
Lecturer - Non-Tenure-Track

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Persian/Persian Studies for the Academic Year 2008-09. The position is for one year and is renewable.

Position
California State University, Fullerton, is developing a Persian Studies Program to consolidate and make more visible campus-wide teaching, scholarship, and community outreach related to Persian history, language, and culture. This position offers the opportunity to participate in the development Persian Studies at the University, teach classes in Persian language and culture, develop curriculum, and play a leadership role in a federally funded intensive summer institute in Persian language and culture. The faculty member will

  • Teach two classes in Persian language and culture each semester.*
  • Lead planning for and instruction in an intensive Summer Institute in Persian language and culture.
  • Develop curriculum in Persian language and culture.
  • Advise students.
  • Participate in committee work in the department.

Qualifications
Required

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Persian and knowledge of second language acquisition and pedagogy.
  • A Ph.D. in Persian linguistics, Persian studies, or a related field is preferred; advanced ABDs will be considered.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the post-secondary level (minimum of one year) and ability to teach courses in Persian language and culture.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students and colleagues.

Desirable

  • Ability to teach in another area of the department (such as another foreign language, international business, language learning technology, or foreign language education.)

This is a non-tenure-track Lecturer position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
