Spanish-American Literature/Culture

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at California
State University, Fullerton, seeks an energetic faculty member who
desires a career that balances excellent teaching with outstanding
scholarship and professional service.
Position
Faculty member will: 1) teach all levels of Spanish, especially
upper-division and graduate-level courses in Latin-American literature
and culture; 2) advise students; 3) serve on academic committees
and contribute to department and university governance. Positive
tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching, research,
peer-reviewed publication, and participation in the broader disciplinary
community.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must have native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
and a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature. (Advanced ABDs may be
considered; doctorate must be completed by date of appointment.)
- Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in student-centered
teaching and in research.
- A minimum of three years successful teaching experience at the
college or university level and potential for successful research.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Evidence of the ability to work collegially with others.
- Successful candidates will be able to interact effectively with
a wide and culturally diverse range of students and faculty.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to teach Portuguese language and culture is highly desirable.
Rank and Salary
The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track.
Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with rank, experience
and qualifications. Additional teaching in summer and intersession
