Social Sciences
Tenure-Track
The Liberal Studies Department at California State University,
Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin
fall semester 2008. Liberal Studies is a unique, long-established
and growing interdisciplinary program that provides faculty and
students with the opportunity to study, teach, and integrate academic
interests in the humanities and arts, the natural sciences and the
social sciences. More than 1200 students major in Liberal Studies.
Position
The department is seeking applicants with a specialty in the social
sciences and social/political thought. Teaching responsibilities
include (1) a team-taught two-semester survey of social thought
and political theory from antiquity to the 19th century; (2) an
interdisciplinary course on twentieth century social thought and
political theory; (3) and an advanced seminar in the applicant's
area of specialization. Tenure and promotion require excellence
in teaching and advising, a continuing record of scholarly activity,
peer-reviewed publications, participation in the profession, and
service to the Department, College, and the University.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a social science discipline or Ph.D. in the history
of the social sciences or social thought.
- Evidence of teaching expertise.
- Ability to interact with a wide and culturally diverse range
of students and faculty.
- Promise of successful scholarly publication.
- General knowledge of and interest in the other areas of the
Liberal Studies program-arts and humanities and natural sciences.
- Ability to work with faculty from diverse disciplines.
Rank and Salary
The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience and
qualifications. Additional teaching for extra pay in summer and
