Creative Writing
Tenure-Track
The Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics
at CSU, Fullerton is seeking highly energetic faculty who desire
a career that balances excellent teaching with outstanding scholarship
and community service. CSU, Fullerton, one of the largest campuses
in the 23-campus CSU system, is an urban university serving over
35,000 students. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences,
the largest and most diverse academic division within the University,
includes 20 departments and interdisciplinary programs and 11 research
centers, and offers over 40 different bachelor's and master's degrees.
The Department offers BAs and MAs in English, Comparative Literature,
and Linguistics, serving approximately 600 majors.
Position
We invite applications for an Assistant Professor specializing in
creative writing, with appropriate publishing history and professional
experience in dramatic and/or screen writing. Teaching would include
creative writing courses at the lower-division, upper-division,
and M.A. levels, supervision of M.A. projects in creative writing,
as well as other courses related to the candidate's interests and
departmental needs. Department faculty normally teach four courses
each semester, although some re-assigned time is available for administrative
responsibilities. Each faculty member advises undergraduate students
and serves on faculty committees. Teaching opportunities exist during
summer and a January intersession. Positive tenure and promotion
decisions require excellent teaching as well as research, peer-reviewed
publication, and participation in the broader disciplinary community.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature with appropriate
academic emphasis in creative writing is required by August 2008.
ABD's will be considered but must show evidence of degree completion
prior to appointment.
- Evidence of successful teaching and publication in creative
writing is essential.
- Candidates should be familiar with recognized best practices
in teaching and have an interest in using and developing innovative
instructional technologies to promote student learning.
- Successful candidates will be able to interact effectively with
a wide and culturally diverse range of students and colleagues.
- An M.F.A. in Creative Writing is highly desirable.
Rank and Salary
The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track.
Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience and
qualifications. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and
any California State University System faculty contract increases.
