Maternal-Child/Pediatric Nursing
Tenure-Track

The Department of Nursing has both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and is recognized as being innovative, community-based, and student friendly. The undergraduate program includes a generic baccalaureate pathway and a completion program for registered nurses, with on-campus and distance cohorts. The master's program offers specialties in nurse anesthesia, family nurse practitioner, women's health care, nursing leadership (including an entry-level master's pathway), and school nursing. There is an accelerated track from the ADN to the MSN for qualified students. Both programs are fully accredited by CCNE. This position targets our pre-licensure pathways leading to either a Bachelor or a Master of Science degree in Nursing. Nursing is part of the College of Health and Human Development. Position

  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation activities.
  • Teach courses in maternal-child and/or pediatric nursing [theory and clinical], as well as one or more of the following: pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, cultural competence, and/or professional nursing research/issues.
  • Coordinate teaching and learning theory and clinical experiences for students within the major content areas listed above with a primary focus on maternal-child teaching
  • Must be able to teach in 10 week summer session each year.
  • Assist students with communication and psychomotor skills, related clinical application of content areas listed above, as well as theses/projects; examinations and other culminating experiences.
  • Participate in student advisement.
  • Participate in distance education.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating classes and clinical rotations; serve as a liaison to relevant health care and other community organizations.
  • Conduct on-going research/scholarly activity in area of expertise.
  • Participate in professional and community activities.
  • Participate in academic activities at Department, College, and/or University levels.

Qualifications

  • Master's and completed doctoral degree from accredited institutions, with one of these degrees in nursing
  • Must hold or be eligible for RN licensure by the California Board of Registered Nurses
  • Clinical expertise in specialty areas listed above, certification as appropriate
  • At least one year of continuous, full-time experience providing direct patient care in maternal-child and/or pediatrics as a registered nurse within the last five years
  • Teaching and curriculum experience preferred.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and potential for extramural fund-raising
  • Ability to interact successfully within a multicultural environment, and to work harmoniously with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Experience in using distance education methodologies, particularly web-based work and telecommunications is desired.

This is a tenure-track at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate professor. Rank and salary are dependent upon academic preparation, professional experience, and qualifications.
