Department Chair

The vibrant and expanding Department of Nursing at Cal State Fullerton seeks talented and enthusiastic applicants for the position of department chair. The Chair will be responsible for leading the department through a continued period of growth and possible transition to a School of Nursing. The successful candidate will be someone with great vision who understands both national and local issues and can assist the department in charting appropriate future directions.

The Department of Nursing offers an undergraduate baccalaureate program with both 4-year generic and RN completion options. The RN to BSN option has on-campus and distance cohorts. We also offer a graduate program with concentrations in nurse anesthesia, FNP, women's health care (NP and midwifery), leadership (includes entry-level RN path), and school nursing. Existing programs, accredited by CCNE, are recognized as being innovative, community-based, and student friendly. The Department is part of the College of Health and Human Development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the leadership and vision required to move the department forward as it continues to expand and meet community/professional needs.
  • Administer the department, ensuring that it operates within the framework of university, college and department mission and goals.
  • Maintain an environment that fosters excellence in teaching, research, practice, and community service.
  • Act as accreditation coordinator for the department.
  • Supervise and coordinate course schedules and faculty teaching assignments.
  • Coordinate all curriculum development, revisions, and enhancements.
  • Participate in, and coordinate, personnel processes for faculty and staff.
  • Maintain a harmonious, collegial, and collaborative department environment.
  • Collaborate and cooperate with campus, professional, and community partners/constituents.
  • Be responsible for oversight of department budgets.
  • Facilitate internal and external grant activities of the faculty; solicit external funding to support nursing programs.

Qualifications

  • Master's in nursing; doctorate in nursing or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Must hold, or be eligible for, licensure by the California Board of Registered Nurses.
  • Proven administrative and leadership skills related to accreditation (e.g., CCNE, BRN), personnel management, interpersonal communication, budget and resource management, decision-making, and development.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research, and service.
  • Commitment to the use of technology in teaching and program administration.
  • Evidence of successful extramural fund-raising.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural environment, and to work harmoniously with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in nursing, health care, and nursing education (including issues related to the Doctorate in Nursing Practice).
  • Evidence of participation and leadership in professional and academic communities.

Preferred Qualification

  • Prior experience in developing or administering a Nursing program with institutional partners (e.g., hospitals, other colleges, community-based organizations).

Rank & Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor. This is a 12-month, full time position. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate to rank, experience and qualifications. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature.
