Community Health Nursing
Tenure-Track
The Department of Nursing has both undergraduate and graduate nursing
programs and is recognized as being innovative, community-based,
and student friendly. The undergraduate program includes a generic
baccalaureate pathway and a completion program for registered nurses,
with on-campus and distance cohorts. The master's degree program
offers specialties in nurse anesthesia, family nurse practitioner,
women's health care, nursing leadership (including an entry-level
master's pathway), and school nursing. There is an accelerated track
from the ADN to the MSN for qualified students. Both programs are
fully accredited by CCNE. This position targets the undergraduate
program with emphasis on the RN to BSN completion program. Nursing

Position
- Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation
activities.
- Teach courses in community health nursing (theory and field
based), as well as one or more of the following: health promotion/disease
prevention, teaching/learning principles, cultural competence,
professional nursing theory, research, and/or issues.
- Assist students with communication and psychomotor skills, related
clinical application of content areas listed above, as well as
graduate culminating experiences such as theses, projects or examinations.
- Assume lead role for community health nursing courses in the
department
- Participate in student advisement
- Participate in distance education
- Provide leadership in coordinating classes and clinical rotations;
serve as a liaison to relevant community organizations
- Conduct on-going research/scholarly activity in area of expertise
- Participate in professional and community activities
- Participate in academic activities at Department, College, and/or
University levels
Qualifications
- MS and completed doctoral degree from accredited institutions,
with one of these degrees in nursing
- Must hold or be eligible for Registered Nurse and Public Health
Nursing licensure by the California Board of Registered Nurses
- Current theoretical and clinical expertise in specialty area
designated above, with certification as appropriate
- Teaching and curriculum experience preferred
- Leadership experience to coordinate student application of theory
in clinical settings and to work with a team of faculty to provide
quality learning opportunities in community health nursing
- Evidence of scholarly activity and potential for extramural
fund-raising
- Ability to interact successfully within a multicultural environment,
and to work harmoniously with students, colleagues, and the community
- Experience in using distance education methodologies, particularly
web-based work and telecommunications is desired
Rank & Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor
or Associate Professor. Rank and salary are dependent upon academic
preparation, professional experience, and qualifications. An excellent
