Physical Activity and Health Promotion
Tenure-Track

The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is seeking to hire a tenure track faculty member whose teaching and research interests are in the area of physical activity and health. The candidate should have expertise in one or more of the following: theories and models of behavior change related to physical activity participation (e.g., social-cognitive, behavioral, social ecological), measurement of physical activity, and/or intervention effectiveness in reducing or preventing chronic disease through physical activity throughout the lifespan. Fullerton's large Kinesiology Department (> 1,000 majors) offers B.S and M.S. degrees in Kinesiology, with both programs having several focus options related to specific career objectives and sub disciplinary specializations. Opportunities for collaboration exist through a number of active research centers/programs including the Center for Successful Aging, the Center for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and Obesity Prevention, and the Employee Wellness Program. Position

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to physical activity, fitness, health and well-being and other Kinesiology courses as appropriate to academic background (e.g., Measurement, Statistics, Introduction to Kinesiology, and/or Research Methods, or other sub-disciplinary courses).
  • Engage in curriculum development consistent with area of expertise.
  • Conduct research and engage in other scholarly activities in areas related to physical activity.
  • Advise and direct student research and graduate theses/projects/exams.
  • Provide Department, College, and University service.
  • Provide academic advisement and career development counseling.

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in kinesiology, exercise science, or related field with a specialization in physical activity and health promotion.
  • Focused ongoing scholarly/creative activity with a record of peer-reviewed publications and potential to attract external funding in areas related to physical activity and health.
  • Successful teaching performance in relevant courses.
  • Evidence of significant professional and leadership activities.
  • Ability to work successfully within a culturally diverse university and community.

Rank & Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature. Additional teaching in summer and intersession is often available.
