Tenure-Track

The Department of Child and Adolescent Studies at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2008.

Position
The area of developmental specialty is open, but preference will be given to scholars who will expand departmental expertise and contribute to the department's teaching mission to prepare undergraduate students broadly for careers in a variety of educational and service settings. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching as well as research, peer-reviewed publication in area of expertise, and appropriate service. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • teach a combination of existing departmental courses and develop courses in area of specialization;
  • participate in ongoing departmental curricular revision and assessment activities;
  • engage in relevant scholarly and professional activities; and
  • provide service to the department, university, and external community.

Essential Qualifications
The appointee must have:

  • an earned doctorate in Child and Adolescent Development/Psychology or a closely related field prior to appointment;
  • a strong general background in developmental theory and research combined with a demonstrated focus or emphasis in an area identified by the candidate;
  • a realistic research agenda focused on issues related to child and/or adolescent development;
  • demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level;
  • an interest in preparing undergraduates to work effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds; and
  • the ability to work collegially and effectively in a multicultural environment.

Desirable Qualifications
Research and/or professional expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • elementary schools;
  • community based, or other applied settings;
  • adolescent development; and
  • prevention and intervention.

Rank & Salary
The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track). Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. CSU Fullerton operates on a semester system that enables faculty to teach in the summer for additional salary. Faculty may also apply for intramural grants to do research during the summer months.
