Endowed Professorship in Gerontology

California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for an endowed position in Gerontology, a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in a cooperating department appropriate to the candidate's specialty. The Endowed Professorship in Gerontology provides a salary supplement, a reduced teaching load, and enhanced research support for the first three years of the position and is renewable on a competitive basis.

At Cal State Fullerton, departments in every college participate in teaching in the interdisciplinary Gerontology Program, which is housed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. In addition to the M.S. in Gerontology, the Program offers an undergraduate Minor in Gerontology. Position
The University is seeking to fill the endowed position in Gerontology with a faculty member whose distinguished record as a teacher and scholar will enhance the University's strengths in teaching and research in areas related to gerontology and aging and whose experience and accomplishments are appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, tenure-track, in one of the University's departments/colleges most appropriate to the successful candidate's background.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including courses taught online, participate in student recruitment, provide academic advisement and mentoring to students, participate in department/University service, including membership on the Gerontology Program Council, seek external grant funding for research, and engage in scholarly research resulting in peer-reviewed publications. Excellent teaching and a distinguished record of peer-reviewed publications following appointment are required for a positive recommendation for tenure.

The Endowment
The Gerontology Endowed Professorship provides, for a three-year period, a number of enhancements to the appointment, which include

  • An enhanced salary.
  • A reduced teaching load, including at least one course each semester in an aging-related area. Courses and approaches that would introduce new topics and perspectives to the Gerontology Programs would be welcomed.
  • Enhanced support for research related to gerontology and aging.

During the period of the endowed appointment, the faculty member will give one public talk or seminar per semester related to his/her research. At the end of the initial term, incumbents would continue toward tenure (assuming satisfactory performance), with or without reappointment to the endowed position for a subsequent three-year term.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required.
  • An outstanding record of scholarly achievement in gerontology and aging, and an active research agenda that promises on-going contributions of significance to the field.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching as well as teaching performance employing effective pedagogy and innovative instructional technologies.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse range of students, faculty, and community members.

Rank and Salary
The position is at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (tenure-track). The salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. An endowment provides enhancements to the position.
