Early Childhood Specialist
Tenure Track
The Department of Special Education, College of Education, California
State University, Fullerton, is accepting applications for an Assistant
Professor in Early Childhood Special Education. The Department of
Special Education provides exemplary Credential and Master degree
programs designed to train teachers in the areas of Mild/Moderate
Disabilities, Moderate/Severe Disabilities and Early Childhood Special
Education. The Department of Special Education provides a program
that is accredited by NCATE and the California Commission on Teacher
Credentialing (CTC). The Department works collaboratively with colleagues
in the College of Education (this includes the Departments of Educational
Leadership, Elementary and Bilingual Education, Reading, and Secondary
Education).
Position
Responsibilities include teaching special education classes and
sharing a variety of tasks with colleagues within department and
across campus. These encompass teaching, public school student teaching
supervision, student advisement, supervision of graduate level research,
grant development, program development, creative and scholarly activities,
university service activities, and collaborations with various community
schools and agencies.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following mandatory criteria:
- Hold an earned doctorate in special education or a related area
from an accredited institution; ABD may be considered if completion
date is within one semester;
- Demonstrated ability to work with culturally and ethnically
diverse campus community, public schools and community organizations;
- Established record of excellence or indication of promise in
research, grant writing and publication; and
- At least 3 years experience working with infants, toddlers,
and preschoolers (birth through 5 years) in a public school or
public agency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful university level teaching and supervision experience;
- Demonstrated collegial teamwork, collaboration, and successful
experience with inclusive practices;
- Knowledge of research based best practices in special education;
- Experience teaching early literacy;
- Knowledge of assistive technology;
- Strong field experience in Child Development;
- Experience with families and a background in language acquisition;
and
- Hold an Early Childhood Specialist Teaching Credential.
Rank & Salary
The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track.
Salary is competitive and commensurate to rank, experience and qualifications.
Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature.
Additional teaching in summer and intersession is often available.
