Printmaking
Tenure-Track
Position
The Department of Visual Arts is seeking candidates who demonstrate
a commitment to traditional and digital printmaking processes as
teacher and professional artist, with a firm knowledge of both historical
and contemporary issues in printmaking related to the fine and applied
arts. There is an expectation that the selected candidate will play
a prominent role in redefining the program in the context of a professional
and fine art academic environment.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be required to teach beginning through graduate
level courses in printmaking processes that may include etching,
lithography, relief, silkscreen, digital media and book arts. Teaching
assignment will consist of 18 contact hours per week, four office
hours, and participation in graduate committees for students working
in printmaking and other disciplines. Other responsibilities include
management of the printmaking studio and participation in outreach
to potential students. Faculty members are responsible for scholarly
and creative activity recognized by peer review, professional activity
(currency in the field), and service to the department, university
and community.
Qualifications
- Candidate must have completed the MFA degree prior to appointment.
- College level teaching experience in printmaking and current
exhibition activity at the national level is a plus.
- Ideally, candidate should have a minimum of two-years teaching
experience in historical and contemporary printmaking processes,
including but not limited to, etching, lithography, relief, silkscreen,
digital media, book arts and letterpress.
- Candidate must be able to lecture effectively, conduct studio
demonstrations in methods, media, theory and processes and be
able to work effectively one-on-one with students.
- Candidate's abilities should include a conceptual base, be well
versed in historical trends in art and have a strong awareness
of the intersection of popular culture and contemporary art.
- Additionally the candidate will have demonstrated an ability
to contribute to a positive working environment with colleagues,
students, faculty and staff from a wide range of cultural/multiethnic
backgrounds.
Rank and Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Salary is competitive and commensurate to rank, experience and qualifications.
Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature.

The Department
Is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and
Design to offer the BA, BFA, MA and MFA in Art. CSUF is located
about 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles in metropolitan Orange
County. The department has approximately 1400 undergraduate art
majors and 100 graduate students, 34 full-time and 58 part-time
faculty members. A full range of fine arts and professional programs
is offered, a 45,000 sq. ft. graduate studio/residence/exhibition
facility (Grand Central Art Center) is located 15 minutes from campus
and a nationally recognized art gallery is located in the visual
arts complex.
