Design Teacher
With Scenic Design Emphasis

Position
The Department of Theatre & Dance seeks an outstanding individual to teach in the undergraduate and MFA Design sequences in the area of scenic design. The successful candidate will join a seven-member design and production faculty. Primary teaching areas may include courses in beginning scenic design, CAD, drafting, rendering for the theatre, and period styles. Other duties include design for selected departmental productions and mentoring/supervision of student designers. Participation in departmental and university academic administrative structure (i.e. committees, advising, etc) as well as external education and professional organizations, recruitment activities and outside scholarly/creative activities is expected.

Qualifications

  • MFA degree in design is required.
  • Significant professional/regional design credits and strong evidence of successful university or professional teaching experience in scenic design is required.
  • The ability to teach or advise in secondary areas such as CAD drafting, scene painting, or costume design is preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students and colleagues is essential.

Rank & Salary
The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track). Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
